Does your child need Speech Therapy?

If you have concerns about your child’s speech and language development, the first step is to communicate to your pediatrician about your concerns and request a referral for a speech-language evaluation. Once you have the referral you may take it to your preferred provider, including Abrazos Pediatric Therapy Services PLLC.

Next, we will verify benefits coverage for your child with their insurance or Medicaid and obtain a pre-authorization for a speech-language evaluation. Once we have the authorization, we will call the parent to set up an appointment for the child to be assessed by one of the speech-language pathologists.

Speech therapy usually begins with an assessment by an SLP who will identify the type of disorder present and the best way to treat it with consideration for severity, diagnoses present, and additional contributing factors.

The amount of time a person needs speech therapy depends on a few factors, including:

  • their age

  • type and severity of the speech disorder

  • frequency of therapy, attendance

  • underlying medical condition

  • treatment of an underlying medical condition

Some speech disorders begin in childhood and improve with age, while others continue into adulthood and require long-term therapy and maintenance. A communication disorder caused by a stroke or other medical condition may improve as with treatment and as the condition improves.

Once the evaluation is completed and a plan of care is developed your pediatrician will have to review goals and recommend a plan of care. Upon his signature of the assessment and plan of care, we will call to set up your therapy appointments.

We at Abrazos Pediatric Therapy Services PLLC are proud to offer in clinic, home, and virtual (teletherapy) visits to best support the child, parent and family to increase the potential for success.
